Matthew 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," Mark 16:15.-16. "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." I have been asked recently, "can we designate where we want our mission's money to go?" My answer is of course you can and if you do designate where you want it to go, rest assured it will go there. But my question is; where is the Faith Promise of such gifts? The Lehigh Acres Christian Church, through missions, has met with many missionaries who are currently serving in foreign and domestic fields, and after listening to heart-rending pleas for support has committed to the monthly support for eight of them, based on the Faith Promise giving of this congregation. They rely on those promised amounts each month, in order to meet obligations just as we rely on our income each week or month, in order to meet our obligations. If the mission giving has strings attached, that prohibits the mission's committee from meeting the missionaries needs based on the promised support, on a monthly basis, how can we expect them to carry out Christ's admonition to His disciples in Matthew and Mark? Several of us have specific missions and missionaries to whom we are partial, and we support them with designated gifts that we may or may not be included in the Faith Promise portion of our giving. Please put yourself in the place of these people who have followed Christ's command to "GO," and realize that many of them are watching their promised support buy less and less each month. And then as you write your missions check with designated gifts, ask yourself am I really supporting the Faith Promise Missions Ministry of Lehigh Acres Christian Church? On behalf of the missionaries we have committed to support; THANK YOU! Norman Lee and the Missions Committee Come and join us for the next missions meeting at 7:00 p.m. on May 12, 2008! |
